Duarte Amaral Netto

Duarte Amaral Netto

My name is Duarte Amaral Netto, I’m from Lisbon (Portugal) where I live and work. I have started my studies in 1993 in a Law degree but soon moved to arts attending a photography course at Ar.co between 1995 and 2000, the Gulbenkian Photography Course (2005) and a Post-Graduate study in Visual Culture Theory. Since 2003 I teach at the Photography course of the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar.

When and why you started to be interested in photography?

My interest in arts started with all the other art forms besides photography, mainly painting, cinema, music and literature. My interest in photography began around the age of 19 and soon I enrolled on the Ar.co course. It has been non-stop since then.

What do you expect of this year and who do you want the most to have class with?

One of the main purposes, besides hearing new perspectives about my work, is to establish a solid network with some teachers and tutors that could outlive the timeframe of the course.

What do you expect of the rest of the students?

To be very active.
