Presentation of the book “Every night temo ser la dinner” by Sofía Ayarzagoitia and La Fábrica

17/11/2016 - 19:00 a 21:00 - IED Photography

The IED Madrid will host the presentation of the book Every night temo ser la dinner, by Sofía Ayarzagoitia, a former student of the European Master in Art Photography. Along with her, we will enjoy the presence of Gonzalo Golpe, the editor of the book, and Camino Brasa, the editorial director at La Fábrica. Come and see us on the 17th of November to discover the way in which this publication reveals the raw gaze of children and the insane, those without judgement.

The photobook mock-up by Sofía Ayarzagoitia has been selected from the more than 300 that were submitted to the competition held by La Fábrica from more than 25 countries. The book will not only be edited, but also presented in the current edition of Paris Photo, which will be held between the 10th and the 13th of November.

Every night temo ser la dinner is a random and vibrant narrative organised around her meetings with eleven men with a range of races and provenances. Through non-linear micro-narratives, Sofía articulates a succession of experiences in the form of a performance captured by her camera.

The title of the book is a metaphor full of irony regarding the way I felt some of those nights […] In a primarily male universe, I never knew if they were going to ask me out or if they were going to scream at me for trying to take a photograph of them.

Ana Sofía Ayarzagoitia

Sofía came to Madrid from Monterrey, Mexico. Her work is inspired by documentary photography, as can be seen in the empathetic relationship she establishes with her subjects. Even if she does not appear in the photographs, the work always refers to her, not just through texts, but also through this relationship.
